Many are exposing the moneyed aspect and trying to get the money out of adoption. Activists comprise domestic as well as internationally adopted peoples. Adoption reform is also supported by large numbers of mothers who were pressured to relinquish children or forced, coerced or had their children kidnapped for adoption. There are also adoptive parents, social workers and some investigative journalists exposing the truth known to the United nations and all NGOs working on the ground with impoverished families and children.. Australia has issued an apology for past practices that took advantage of mothers marginalized by age and rendered powerless by marital status and finances. Yet the US continues to practice the same policies that exploit mothers in crisis and commodify their children for profit. The US government needs to yield to the truth and put some regulations in place to curb the mass importing and exporting of children. Adoption needs to return to putting the needs and best interests of children before the interests of those paying and those reaping in the fees.
